Gabriel Fauré

Trio in D minor, Op. 120 (1923) for clarinet, cello and piano

The Piano Trio in D minor, Op. 120 by Gabriel Fauré was composed in 1923, just a year before Fauré's death, and is considered one of his last great works. The opening of the trio starts with a melancholic piano accompaniment, followed by the lyrical melody played by the cello. The clarinet then enters to build a passionate climax. Throughout the piece, Fauré's exquisite harmonies and masterful use of counterpoint create a rich and complex tapestry of sound that is both emotionally stirring and intellectually satisfying.
